New Blackburn Junior Tour

26 Mar 2017 by David Fitzsimons

It is with great excitement that Blackburn Cycling Club announce a change to this year’s their Junior Tour for 2017. The the event will now take place over the weekend of July 1st and 2nd and will be made of up 3 stages including an ITT and Crtierium on a closed circuit and a new and challenging Road Race.

The club is 100% committed to Junior Development and as part of this commitment believe in running the best possible event that we can. Over the last few years due to multiple factors including the logistics and movement of dates, the holding of the race at Eildon has meant that the safety and success of the event would have been compromised.

On Saturday the 1st of July BBN will hold Stage 1 ITT and Stage 2 road race will be on the Casey Fields closed circuit criterium track. BBN believe that Casey Fields provides a unique opportunity as it is close to Melbourne, reducing accommodation and travelling costs as well as enabling parents to view the race at all times. Sunday’s Stage 3 will held on the Mornington Peninsula, commencing at Main Ridge Community Hall and take the riders on a new challenging course not yet used in any road race or junior tour. It is a 12km loop enabling parents to see the action unfold. The course is challenging but fair with an iconic uphill finish. This Road Race is made possible by the partnership of Blackburn and Southern Masters CC, who have been working together to identify a suitable course that offers a unique challenge and fairness for all age groups.

We will release further details as we complete the planning of the event but rest assured that Blackburn will be running a Junior Tour this year.
