The 2018-2019 Club Track Calendar was announced during September, racing begins on Saturday October 20th. See the link https://blackburncyclingclub.teamapp.com/events/6865880 for further information. As a result of great sponsorship coordinated by Co-Vice President Barry Woods, on top of the great weekly prize money, an extra $4000.00 worth of prizemoney and prizes will be available to be won throughout the season, for all grades. We look forward to seeing you all on race day, 20th October, for the BIG season opener!!

September 21 – 23 saw Sophie Marr JW15 and Tarun Cook JM15 head over to Bunbury, West Australia to represent Victoria in the Australian Junior Road Race Championships. Also selected as a State Coach was our own Emerson Harwood. Both riders excelled individually and as part of a team. Sophie came home with a Silver medal (2nd) in the ITT, 9th in the Road Race and 6th in the Criterium. Tarun won a Silver medal (2nd) in the ITT, 6th in the Road Race and a Silver medal (2nd) in the Criterium. In addition, Tarun also won the National Junior Road Series, an excellent result overall, congratulations to both Tarun and Sophie.

On September 27, Cycling Australia announced the Australian Cycling Team Podium Potential Academy and Blackburn’s Caitlin Ward (Elite Sprint) and former club member Godfrey Slattery (Elite Endurance) were named in the academy squad. The academy’s focus will be on developing athletes to target success at the 2024 Olympic Games and beyond in both sprint and endurance disciplines. See the link for further https://www.australiancyclingteam.com/news/track-australian-cycling-team-podium-potential-academy.

On September 30 (Sunday after Grand Final Day) the club held the 1 in 20 Hillclimb ITT Classic https://blackburncyclingclub.teamapp.com/events/6755373 starting from The Basin racing against the clock up hill at an average of 4% over approximately 6.8km’s, finishing at Sassafras. Again Brian Harwood (Racing Chairperson) put together a great team of volunteers and officials, which saw this year’s event held in near perfect conditions. The fastest time of the day went to Raphael Freienstein (St.Kilda CC) in 13:13.28. All results can be found at http://liveresults.bbn.org.au/2018/1-in-20/results.html. A name to watch for the future is young u13 Max Goold (Carnegie Caulfield CC) who recorded a time of 17:59.75, which most elite riders would be proud of. Thank you to all riders who competed and supported the event.
