Life Member & Club Man and Club Woman Announcement

7 May 2020 by Barry woods

On Sunday, at Blackburn Cycling Clubs AGM, three prestigious awards were given out.

The first two awards were for Club man, and Club Woman of the year. Club members voted, and there were two clear winners.

For 2020, the Club Woman of the Year award, went to Kylie Woods. Kylie is a major asset behind the scenes, assisting the Presidents role, and chasing up new members. Kylie also runs the Fundraising for the club, and managed to raise over $5000 for the Eildon Junior Tour, and the Australia Day Madison events.
Kylie also keeps the canteen stocked and opens it up for each event held at the velodrome.
Kylie also assisted in the running of our previous presentation night, and managed to get over $3000 in prizes from local businesses, to raffle throughout the evening.
Kylie was a clear winner for the 2020 Club woman of the Year.

For 2020, the Club Man of the year award went to Andrew Johnstone.
Andrew volunteers an enormous amount of time to assist the Club all year around. Andrew is often the first face most people see, at any event.
Through out the Summer he runs the Wednesday track training, and the Saturday morning track training. He then follows that up by assisting most Saturday afternoons at Club racing.
Throughout the Winter he runs the Wednesday night ergo sessions at the Clubrooms, but of late he has run these via ZOOM, to a very large audience. On Saturday afternoons he runs the Jells Park Junior Development rides, and is responsible for the Successful Winter Criterium Series, which started last year.
Andrew was a clear winner for the 2020 Clubman of the Year.

The final prestigious award given out, was for our latest ‘Life Member’. The recipient of this award started his service to the Club, back in 2011, when his daughter started, at the Siemens facility in Bayswater, doing the Junior Development program. Within weeks, they were helping at every session, and before long founds themselves being a major part of the program. The recipient ended up being the head coach at the facility, until its closure to riders in 2018. He is now in charge of the Junior Development program at Blackburn, and is doing a sterling job. We are talking about none other than Andrew Johnstone.
Congratulations Andrew on a stellar year, and welcome aboard as a Life Member. You certainly earnt the recognition received.

Congratulations to our award recipients!! We look forward to handing these out at our next Presentation Night, when we are able to host one!
