Blackburn honorary Life Membership, recognises individuals, whom the committee deems to have had a significant service contribution, and provided a measurable benefit to the club, over an extended period of time. A person who has provided extraordinary, and exceptional services, to our club.

Over our 76 years, Blackburn have had 1000s of riders, and volunteers, represent the red & black. Our club evokes loyalty, it evokes inclusiveness, and most of all, it evokes devotion and commitment. Tonight, we will stand, and raise our glasses, to a person who is most deserving, of this award.

This person immediately got involved in the club, when joining back in May 2011. Riding, volunteering, and occasionally racing, as well as supporting their child, as well as others.

This person has been a long standing member of the Blackburn committee. They have previously held the role of Junior Development Chair, NJTS coordinator, and faithfully built, and run, the Monday night training session at DISC, turning it into a fantastic night of track training. They were instrumental in getting the TeamApp payment system organised, for our multiple training nights, and is regimental, in policing that all riders make their payments on time. This person, over the years has helped out in a variety of roles, supporting racing, traffic controlling, being race director, assistant race director, and any other position, that was needed to be filled, to allow racing to go ahead. In this person’s time at Blackburn Cycling Club, they have mentored and encouraged both our riders, and younger coaches.

This person is the backbone to our DISC training nights, making sure they run smoothly, by checking coaching staff are available, and supporting the coaches, both on and off the track. They also make sure the riders, are ready and prepared, and ensure parents know the rules, about over parenting. This person is often in the back ground, but is a major part of the success, of arguably one of the biggest club run, cycling training sessions in Australia. Even when this person’s child is not participating, they will still be accountable, and always turn up.

This person encapsulates everything, that Life Membership of this club, is about. This person does what they do for the club, without looking for, or wanting thanks, or even any credit. They never seek their name in the spotlight, or talk themselves up. They are what our club is all about.

This person also, looks a little bit like Fred Flinstone!!!!

Congratulations to the 2022 Life Member of the Blackburn Cycling Club - Andrew Radford
