Let’s Race Blackburn Program is a program for juniors aged 7 to 14 who want to learn about track and road cycling in a fun and relaxed environment at your local cycling club under the guidance and support of nationally qualified coaches.
What is the difference between the Let’s Race Program & a general Come & Try Day? They are a very similar program but the Let’s Race Program is a National Program delivered on behalf of Cycling Australia & Cycling Victoria, over six weeks by accredited/qualified coaches. The cost of the six program is generally $110.00ea, but the club is again subsidising the cost to $99.00ea for 2019 – 2020 season and this cost also includes the riders Cycling Australia and Blackburn Cycling Club 12 month Race Licence Membership, plus other bonus’ listed below when available. Each rider must be assessed by the coach initialising the program and until each rider completes the program, riders are not authorised to race and compete at club, interclub or open level. The club supplied the track bike.
The cycling program is aimed at beginners, specifically developed for young people and is a fun and interactive learning experience that teaches kids/juniors to race and ride safely.
Laugh your way through time trials, flying 200’s and team pursuits on the track with other like-mined juniors. Along the way, your ride mentors and coaches will step you through the basic skills, tactics and events of track racing, empowering you with the confidence and knowledge you need to know about track racing.
Cost: $99.00 per person and includes:
- Annual racing membership
- Use of a club track bike
- Musette bag
- Fresh water bottle
- Certificate of Completion
- 1x free junior development training pass (value $10)
- Junior development pathway (JDP) opportunity.
Participants are expected to:
•Have a Australian standards helmet (By law you are required to wear a helmet at all times on a bike, the helmet must have the Australian Standard sticker AS/NZS 2063 intact or you will not be able to wear that helmet).
•Be able to confidently ride a bike
Clothes: Cycling shorts or pants, no loose clothing or thongs, a top with sleeves and runners or bike shoes. Bring a jacket and track pants in case the weather is cool.
Pedals or Cleats welcome.

The Let’s Race Blackburn Program is a 6 week program. The program will run from 10/10/2019 – 19/12/2019, short break and then recommence on 16/01/2020 – 26/03/2020. Event may be cancelled from time to time due to an unforseen reason, i.e. inclement weather.

Each session will run from 6.30pm – 8.00pm approximately. Riders register attendance from 6.00pm and start on the track at 6.30pm.
Riders are welcome to join the program on any Thursday as the program will run continuously other than stated above. All riders will be given an opportunity to complete the program and receive their competency certificate.

Once the Let’s Race 6wk Program is completed, junior riders advance into the clubs Junior Development Program where they have an opportunity to learn, develop and enhance their race cycle skills. Inexperienced junior members (i.e. Novices) who have not yet advanced to the Wednesday evening training session are welcome to attend the Thursday evening session and partisipate in Novice Program to further inhance their skills. Those riders will be assessed week by week to ensure they have an opportunity to continue on the junior development pathway.
