Blackburn Cycling Club is very pleased to announce that the “Damian McDonald Memorial Road Race” will be ran again this year at Eildon, on Sunday 9th July.

Damian was a champion cyclist from Blackburn CC, who was tragically killed on March 23rd 2007, in a traffic accident in the Burnley Tunnel. In 1990, Damian won the Australian National Road Race title, and in 1992, he was the reserve rider for the Teams Pursuit at the Barcelona Olympics. The Australian Team went on to win a Silver medal, against Germany. It was also within this year that Damian was recognised as a Life Member, at Blackburn Cycling Club. Damian went on to win a Gold medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, in the Road Teams Time Trial, with team mates, Henk Vogels, Phil Anderson, and Brett Dennis. Damian also went on to win many Road and Track events, and also represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Damian is remembered not only as a wonderful athlete, but as an amazing family man. This race will honour the memory of this cycling legend. RIP 1972-2007.

This race is held in conjunction with the:

2023 Bayside Skoda Eildon Junior Tour (VJRS)
2023 AusCycling State Time Trial Series (VTTS) Round 3 | Victoria – Eildon ITT
